History
The Tarland Welfare Trust (Reg. Charity SCO 08030) was formed in 1951 for the purpose of building, equipping and maintaining a new village hall in Tarland. The land and money to build the Hall were gifted to the community by Lady MacRobert (see MacRobert Trust) and hence its name. The Trustees of the Tarland Welfare Trust own and manage the Hall on behalf of the community under a 'Declaration of Trust'. This states that the Memorial Hall be built 'with a view to providing improved amenities and facilities for the public, so that the Hall may be run in the manner most beneficial to the Community'.
Facilities Available
The main hall has a large stage and capacity for up to 300 seated in rows; alternatively with seats at tables plus a dance floor the capacity is 180. There is also a small hall adjacent to the kitchen area and an upper hall with capacity for 50 - 100.

Planning for the Future
The Trustees and representatives of user groups and the community set up a planning group to review what facilities the community needs for the future and how the Hall might be adapted and refurbished to meet these needs.
The Planning Group consulted widely and involving as many people as possible in this process. Notes of meetings and the resultant alteration proposals and plan drawings have been posted on this website. Fundraising events and donations from community groups and others have shown the considerable support that exists for the renovations.
The next stage of the process is to organise applications for grant funding to supplement the commnuities efforts. For further information please contact the secretary.
